The most plagiarized web developer resume on the world wide web!
Welcome to the original and one of the most plagiarized, copied and reproduced resumes on the Internet. You probably reached my resume by typing in a search for "web developer resume", "php developer resume", "php resume", "php resumes", "php web resume", or one of many variants on that theme. This resume scores well in the search engines for many of those terms.
While on the one hand, this is a good thing, after all I want my resume to find its way to the right person looking for it, scoring well in organic search also has a down side. It has just as often scored well for those who are looking for a quick cut and paste solution to putting their own resume together.
It's kind of funny in a way, when I first put my web developer resume together online many years ago, I broke all the traditional resume writing rules. In all, it was over six printed pages long, I included more information than most people said a resume should contain, it contained non standard formatting and yet despite all that, it was successful. So successful in fact that it became a standard for an online web developer resume, especially web developers working with PHP.
How did this happen? It's simple, when it comes to electronic publication, It's too easy to cut and paste and overall, there is no respect for intellectual property online. Why take the time to write your own words when you can much more quickly just copy someone else's work and pass it off as your own? This of course is a problem for anyone who produces anything original online.
However, my resume was copied over and over, often word for word with only my name removed and sometimes not even the company names removed, and then those copies were copied, and so on and so on. Over time, as a result of all the copying, as more developers decided to put their resumes online and looked around at other developers work such as my own for a guide if not a complete cut and paste template, predominantly PHP developers, I singlehandedly redefined what a web developer resume looks like. What an accomplishment!
Who would have thought year's ago when I made the decision to put together an online resume, I would singlehandedly have such an influence? As flattering as it is, I will admit, it is also problematic. It's problematic when all of a sudden you become accused of copying those that copied you and this is the real downside to exposing oneself online in the way that I have. So I am making this public pronouncement here that this resume was never cut and pasted from another resume but it is an original work by me and reflects the work I have done and if you come across another resume you thought I might have copied I can assure you, it is most likely the other way around.
I am in fact a PHP developer, and the skills and formatting on this resume were not simply pasted from someone else's work but reflect my many years of experience working in the field of web development. This resume also serves to underscore something else, and that is my skill in organic SEO, which speaks to the breadth of skills I have to offer.
